During the January trip to the school, we got to see just how important music is to our students.  They start every school day with singing songs in the courtyard and join together every Friday for a sing-a-long.  They joy they get from music and singing is very moving! 

Thanks to a true team effort from multiple supporters, the school's first library is open!  Special thanks to students at GRCC and GVSU for raising money for the bookshelves, students and staff at The French School of Detroit for collecting about 1000 French books and the volunteers who helped organize and label all the books!  This library will not only service our school, but will serve as a resource for other local teachers who have completed a teacher training workshop.  These books could easily reach over 1000 students in the first year alone.

  

We had some very excited and thankful students at Christmas.  Every one of our students received a brand new pair of shoes thanks to all of the shoe donations in September.  Thank you for making it possible!  Watch the video below to hear them say thanks.

Thanks to all of you who helped us not only reach our Christmas Fundraising goal, but exceed it!  Your support is very appreciated!

 

A group of caring and hard working college students at Grand Rapids Community College and Grand Vally State University teamed up to organize a successful fundraising drive for PEF.  Together they collected over 600 toothbrushes and raised money for our school library.  Amazing work students!

Thanks to so many people who donated, we exceeded our goal and collected 140 pairs of shoes for our students!  The shoes are all packed and ready to go down with the next team.  For many of our students, this will be the only pair of shoes they own that actually fit.  Thanks to all who helped and donated shoes so our students can have this wonderful gift.

We are excited to announce our First Annual Christmas Drive.  It is the one time of year that we are able to bring presents for the students.  This year we will be collecting closed toe black shoes along with some smaller items like matchbox cars, stickers and green & yellow hair ribbons.  Please see our flyer for all the details.  Collection deadline is September 20th.

Thanks to a very generous donation from PEF supporters, we were able to fund summer school for our students!  This a huge privilege for our students as most kids in Haiti do not have the option of continuing their studies in the summer.   The summer program is optional and focuses on literacy and learning English.  About 75 students are taking advantage of it.

Optional Saturday classes are now being offered to all of our students.  Teachers volunteer their time to teach a variety of skills like sandal making, crocheting and other arts.
