Mission: To Empower Children Through Education

Our Story

The Power of Education Foundation (PEF) was founded in December 2009 on the belief that every child should be able to go to school, It was born from a dream of three people in two different countries who met by chance and now partner to educate some of the most vulnerable children in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

While our Michigan based co-founders had the resources and desire to open a school, they wanted a local partner who shared their dream of educating children in Haiti and had the experience running a school. Through a bit of luck and a mutual friend, in stepped Jordan Fleurant, an experienced educator, principal and local community leader. Jordan has always believed that education is the key to improving one’s life. Growing up in one of Port-au-Prince’s poorest neighborhoods, he saw how children could escape poverty and violence if they receive an education. Even at a young age, he believed that every child should have access to education and dreamed of opening a school for children in his neighborhood. After completing university, Jordan gained experience leading multiple education programs and maintained his strong desire to run a high-quality school.

After months of planning together, our school doors opened in October 2010 and has grown from 90 students to 240 students, kindergarten through 9th grade. We offer free, high-quality education to students who cannot afford the tuition and fees charged by most schools in Haiti. We equip our teachers with training and technology and give students the tools they need to be successful learners; nutrition, health care, textbooks, and a compassionate learning environment. Our partnership with local community leaders and our Haitian non-profit, PEFF, ensure necessary resources to sustain a strong and long-lasting school program.
