Our School in Fontamara

Growing up in Haiti, where education is not free and poverty rates are high, means a large number of children never get the opportunity to go to school. No school means fewer opportunities for future. Lives are changed through education, so we were determined to provide access to high quality education to children who had no other possibility of attending school. Partnering with local Haitian education leaders, we opened our school in a place where no tuition-free schools existed and other organizations avoided. This isn't just any school. It's place of empowerment, partnerships and safety for our students and the community. There is real learning in the classrooms, teacher & parent training in the afternoons, reading in the community's only school library, information sharing in the computer lab and support programs over the weekends. Education is so much more than just learning to read and write, it has the power to changes lives forever.
